CBSE Class 12 Practical Exams

The practical exams are scheduled a few days before the main theoretical exams and the obtained marks are then added in total marks. CBSE class 12th commerce and science stream has practical assessments for the majority of their subjects. The year 2020-2021 class 12 practical exams timetable was postponed due to covid reasons.

During these exams, students visit their schools and perform the given experiments or tests. During covid-19, practical exams are expected to be scheduled in the month of  March 2021. In order to build literacy skills, learning skills, and life skills, CBSE has introduced the 21st-century learning pattern in class 11th and 12th. In this new pattern, 70-80% of the marking in class 11th are assessed through comprehension and analytical skills of students. Some subjects are assessed through activities and internal assessment.   • Separation of pigments from extracts of leaves and flowers by paper chromatography and determination of Rf values
  • Separation of constituents present in an inorganic mixture containing two cations only (constituents having large differences in Rf values to be provided).
    • Preparation of Inorganic Compounds Preparation of double salt of Ferrous Ammonium Sulphate of Potash Alum. Preparation of Potassium Ferric Oxalate.
    •  Tests for the functional groups present in organic compounds: Unsaturation, alcoholic, phenolic, aldehydic, ketonic, carboxylic, and amino (Primary) groups.

  • Study of the presence of oxalate ions in guava fruit at different stages of ripening.
  • Study of quantity of casein present in different samples of milk.
  • Preparation of soybean milk and its comparison with the natural milk with respect to curd formation, the effect of temperature, etc.
  • Study of the effect of Potassium Bisulphate as food preservative under various conditions(temperature, concentration, time, etc.)
  • Study of digestion of starch by salivary amylase and effect of pH and temperature on it.
  • Comparative study of the rate of fermentation of the following materials: wheat flour, gram flour, potato juice, carrot juice, etc.
  • Extraction of essential oils present in Saunf (aniseed), Ajwain (carum), Illaichi(cardamom).
  • Study of common food adulterants in fat, oil, butter, sugar, turmeric powder, chili powder, and pepper. Note: Any other investigatory project, which involves about 10 periods of work, can be chosen with the approval of the teacher.

Class 12 Maths Practical Syllabus-

Periodic Test

CBSE has also scheduled periodic tests for students who have opted for Maths as one of their papers in academic group A. Periodic test is similar to a written exam taken in your school by your respective subject teacher.

  • When will the periodic test for class 12th  Maths paper be held?
    There will be 3 periodic test in the entire Academic Year, First test will be known as Pre Mid-term (PT-I) and will be held tentatively in the Month
    July-August.
    The second test will be known as Test Mid-term (PT-II) and will be held tentatively in the Month
    November.
    The third test will be known as PostMid-term (PT-III) and will be held tentatively in the Month
    December-January.
  • What will be the format of the periodic Test held for the CBSE Class 12th Maths paper? The periodic test paper will include questions for very short answers (VSA), short answers (SA), and long answers (LA). This will help to assess students to effectively assess the student’s conceptual knowledge, their application, and analytical skills, and evaluation and synthesis skills. There can be other sorts of questions too.
  • What will be the marking scheme in the periodic Test held for CBSE Class 12th Maths paper? Every PT will be held for 10 marks each. The average of the marks will be added to the final mark sheet. Once all the three PTs are completed the best two marks will be considered and the average of the two will be added in the final.

According to the CBSE circular no.Acad-05/2017, the students will get a simple record of their PT performance.

Unit 2: Topographic and Weather Maps Aerial Photographs:

  • Types and Geometry-vertical aerial photographs; the difference between maps and aerial photographs; photo scale determination. Identification of physical and cultural features

  • Making different types of graphic designs/ murals for interior/ exterior decorations in color using the knowledge of geometrical figures with the use of any Computer Software such as Collab-CAD and/or any equivalent pertinent software.
  • Drawing the following engineering curve through activities – ellipse (by trammel & thread method) on the ground/ drawing sheet/ plywood/ cardboard, etc.
  • Developing the following solids with the help of cardboard/ thick paper. a) cube, cuboid b) prisms & pyramids (triangular, square, pentagonal and hexagonal) c) right circular cylinder and cone
  • Preparing the section of solids (prisms, pyramids, sphere, etc.) with clay, soap, thermocol, plasticine, wax or any other material (easily and economically available). When the cutting plane is: parallel to the base, perpendicular to the base, or inclined to the base.

Note: 

  • 10 practicals (minimum two each from the aforementioned four points) are to be assessed.
  • In all the practicals, drawing/sketching of the views should be incorporated and evaluated accordingly.

Practical papers will be assessed partially through internal assessment and partially through the live tests. Students need to submit projects, seminars, experiments to score marks in Practical assessment.

  • The Practical exams will be for 3 hours.
  • Every Practical will be for  40 Marks each.
  • Instruction will be provided separately forever experiments or projects.
  • Students should not miss the practical exam dates.
